Emma receives a perplexing voicemail from her ex-partner, Mike, demanding that she pick up their supposed child, Josie, from day camp. Confused and shocked, Emma denies having a child with Mike and assumes it's a prank. However, when her mother calls and mentions the same request from Mike, Emma's confusion deepens. Her mother insists on coming over, furthering Emma's distress. As her mother arrives, Emma vehemently denies having a child named Josie, causing a rift between them. Emma's confusion intensifies when her mother mentions dismantled furniture and questions her own granddaughter's existence. Unable to comprehend the situation, Emma's mother advises taking her to the hospital. Emma agrees, hoping to find answers to the bizarre situation. However, upon entering the kitchen, Emma realizes her mother believes Josie is present, despite Emma's denial. Overwhelmed, Emma escapes to a hotel in another town, seeking solace from the unsettling events. As she tries to distract herself with TV, she discovers news reports about a man found dead in a pool. Disturbed, Emma contacts the police to check on her mother, only to be informed that she accidentally ran over Josie when leaving the house.
